Keep warm and stay well this winter

Keep warm and stay well this winter

The very cold weather we're experiencing in Hertfordshire looks set to stay for at least the next few days. Take steps to make sure that you stay warm - it will help you to keep well.

If you're going outside, make sure you dress appropriately.  It's a good idea to wear a hat and try to wear shoes that will help you to stay on your feet on slippery pavements.

If indoors, make sure that you keep your heating to the right temperature; heating your home to at least 18°C in winter reduces the risks to your health when you are wearing suitable clothing.

If there is anyone you know who might be at special risk, for example, an older person living on their own, make sure they know what to do to stay warm and check that they are well stocked with food and medication.

If you are worried about your health or that of somebody you know, ring NHS 111.

Advice on keeping warm and staying well can be found on the NHS website and you can get practical help with heating your home from Hertfordshire County Council here.
