Patients raise the profile of participation at community events
Patient members from Welwyn, Hatfield and Stevenage had a busy weekend of events raising the profile of patient participation for healthcare issues in East and North Hertfordshire.
First up were three patient participation groups from the Welwyn Hatfield Area (Garden City Practice, Hall Grove Group Practice and Potterells Medical Centre) who battled with torrential rain to pitch their stall at Health Fest outside the Howard Centre in Welwyn Garden City on Saturday 6 June. The event provided the opportunity for partners, staff and volunteers to spend the day speaking to people about the importance of patients making their voice heard within the NHS. We showed what patients in the local area had already achieved and, we hope, encouraged many more to get involved with their local GP Practice to make a real difference. The event, which was organised by Welwyn Hatfield District Council, proved to be a great success with members of the public getting plenty of advice from health and wellbeing organisations across the area.
The torrential rain of Health Fest was swiftly followed by blistering sunshine for Stevenage Day, where patient members from Bedwell and Roebuck Medical Practice attended. Again, nurses, staff and patient members attended and were busy throughout the day in giving out healthy living material and conducting on the spot health checks by taking people's blood pressure. It was another great opportunity to show the valuable input patients are making to both their practices but also the healthcare environment for Hertfordshire.
