Survey launched to gain views on end of life care in East and North Hertfordshire

Across East and North Hertfordshire, a new survey has been launched to gain vital feedback on end of life care (care provided to patients in the last year of their life) to help improve services and share learning.

Feedback from relatives and carers will help inform the care providers and commissioners what is currently working well and any areas for improvement in end of life care. All responses will be anonymous as there is no requirement for identifiable information.

Dr Rachel Joyce, Director of Clinical and Professional Services, Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care System, said:

“We know that for anyone who has lost a loved one recently, it will be a very difficult and sensitive time. Our services would welcome feedback on the end of life care that people will have encountered over the last six to twelve months in order to learn and improve. Learning from the experiences and insight of relatives and carers is a vital way in which we do that.

“Obviously there have been many challenges in health and social care during the coronavirus pandemic, with several changes to end of life care that have required staff, patients and their relatives and carers to adjust. We are keen to know about the quality of care received, how patients and their loved ones were involved in decision making and any other aspect of care that could either be shared or improved upon.”

We are keen to hear from people whose loved ones received end of life care from any of the following organisations over the last 6 – 12 months:

  • East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust (The Lister Hospital)
  • Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust (care provided at home by a district or community nurse)
  • Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust
  • Garden House Hospice Care (including hospice at home services)
  • Isabel Hospice (including hospice at home services)
  • Any care homes across East and North Hertfordshire*

Please do help share the link and raise awareness of the survey, which is running for the month of March, to ensure we get a good response to this survey.

Please visit for further information or to complete the online survey. Hard copies can also be sent out where this is preferred, though all responses should be received by 31 March 2021. Summary findings will be posted on the site in May.
